Original Text
“Without Buddhism, there can be no humanity. Without humanity, there can be no Buddhism. This is like the two wheels of a cart. A cart cannot move with only one wheel. True Buddhism is realized when both Buddhism and humanity are fulfilled. This is partial teaching. Partial teaching is erroneous teaching. Erroneous teaching leads to the way of demons. The way of demons leads to hell.”
Modern Translation
Without Buddhism, the ethical principles of humanity do not exist. Without the ethical principles of humanity, Buddhism does not exist. This is like the two wheels of a cart. A cart cannot run without both wheels. Only when both Buddhism and humanity are present can true Buddhism be said to exist. One-sided teachings are not true Buddhism. One-sided teachings are erroneous teachings, which lead to the way of demons. The way of demons leads to hell.
Explanation
