Encouraging Words from the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin

From “On the Contemplation of the Mind”

“For example, it is the natural compassion of a parent to grieve over a child who is sick. In the same way, the Buddhas regard living beings as their children and are constantly concerned about them. Therefore, living beings should respond to the heart of the Buddhas by practicing the Buddhist teachings and chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.”

Modern Translation

Just as it is natural for a child to grieve when a parent is sick, so too do the Buddhas constantly care for living beings as their own children. Therefore, living beings should practice Buddhism and chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo in accordance with the Buddha’s heart.

Explanation

This passage is from a letter written by Nichiren Daishonin to his disciples.
