原文:
仰せられ候へば、末法の濁悪の世は、煩悩業障の雲深くして、三毒五蘊の闇もて覆ひ、日月も輝かず、星辰も影を失ひ、大地も震ひ、大海も乾き、草木も枯れ、人民も滅びんとす。かゝる時にこそ、法華経の御本尊を信じ、南無妙法蓮華経と唱へ奉るべきなり。
意味:
末法の濁悪な世は、煩悩や業障の雲が深く立ち込め、三毒（貪欲、瞋恚、愚痴）と五蘊（色、受、想、行、識）の闇に覆われて、太陽も月も輝かず、星も影を失い、大地は震え、海は干上がり、草木は枯れ、人々は滅びようとしている。このような時代だからこそ、法華経の御本尊を信じ、南無妙法蓮華経と唱えなければならない。
解説:
末法は、釈迦入滅後500年後に始まる時代とされ、衆生が煩悩にまみれ、仏の教えが衰退する時代とされています。日蓮大聖人は、このような末法の世にこそ、法華経の御本尊を信じ、南無妙法蓮華経と唱えることが重要であると説きました。
この文章は、立正安国論の序論に記されています。立正安国論は、日蓮大聖人が鎌倉時代に著した代表的な御書の一つで、法華経こそが末法の時代に人々を救う唯一の教えであることを論じています。

In the evil age of the Latter Day of the Law, the clouds of defilement and karma are deep, and the darkness of the three poisons and five aggregates covers everything. The sun and moon do not shine, the stars lose their light, the earth trembles, the oceans dry up, the grass and trees wither, and the people perish. It is at such a time that we must believe in the Gohonzon of the Lotus Sutra and chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.
